The exhibition “Alma de Cántaro” will remain open until 21/09/2025 at the Casa Natal de Cervantes Museum in Alcalá de Henares. Curated by Leopoldo Casero, a native of Mota del Cuervo, the exhibition brings together pieces, photographs and unpublished documents that recover the history and soul of the pottery craft of Mota del Cuervo, a tradition with centuries of history.
The exhibition is organised into three sections, one of them dedicated especially to the potters’ quarter of Mota del Cuervo, where intense pottery activity developed over generations. This section displays photographs never before shown, loaned by families who had preserved them in their private collections.
“Alma de Cántaro” not only highlights the craft of pottery, but also the essential role of the women who worked the clay day after day, contributing to family livelihoods and to the artisanal identity of the town.
The project has the collaboration of various individuals and institutions who have loaned pieces and photographic material. The Casa Natal de Cervantes Museum, owned by the Community of Madrid, receives around 12,000 visitors per month, so it is expected that close to 70,000 people will visit the exhibition during its run.
